January 28th, 2008 - Biohazard Symbol History

This is simply interesting: Biohazard Symbol History. (Thanks to Eric for sending it to me.)

Guess it’s not something an industry would co-opt, like the recycling symbol co-opted by the plastics folks. (You know–the three arrows in a triangle representing reduce, reuse, recycle, which they use with the number indicating the type of plastic. It doesn’t mean the plastic can actually be recycled. But they use it to imply that to great effect. And oh so many people toss all their plastics into recycling bins having no idea that the presence of that symbol has nothing to do with whether recycling facilities exist at all, much less in their community.)
