December 4th, 2007 - Little Wishes

If you are looking for a charity to support this holiday season, another to consider is Little Wishes (link to Baggage’s post about them–skip the first part about the lousy meeting she had to go to :) ). LW is now part of our annual giving. I sponsored art lessons, I think it was, last summer during the Blogathon. I wish I could give more this time, but we’re saving up to sponsor Baggage again this summer. Not that you need to wait!

In a nutshell, Little Wishes grants wishes for foster kids in the St. Louis area. Why? Because foster parents are not paid to give more than the basics to their kids. And sometimes, they aren’t even paid enough to do that. It can be a struggle to provide extras that an average kid might expect–music lessons, the prom, senior pictures, etc. And some foster kids don’t have even foster parents looking out for them–some kids are in residential treatment programs.

Oh, this is cool–last summer, only larger wishes were up there–things like I mentioned above. Right now, Christmas gift wishes are there, many of them (about 1000) under $50!
