October 25th, 2006 - Changing the seasons

With the garden this year, I feel much more in touch with the change of seasons. My primary change–after putting Maggie to bed, I change into my PJs and cuddle up with a book or TiVO for the evening. In the summer, I almost always went outside to work or did a project indoors!

Over the weekend, I planted my garlic and yesterday afternoon I finished the rest of the outdoor chores. (At least, until enough leaves drift over from the neighbors and I have to rake.) I dug up the cannas (not cold-hardy), brought in the remaining tomato cages, put away Maggie’s play table, and straighted up a few things in the garage.

Have been planning next year’s garden in my head and need to start sketching it out. Had to think a bit to figure out where to plant the garlic then changed my mind as soon as I got to the garden. Hope I chose the right spot! Also planning on putting the cannas in a different spot next year–at the back of my new bulb garden which has been empty. Then, perhaps, I’ll plant lingonberries where the cannas had been!
