June 1st, 2006 - In the garden
In no particular order, I have planted
- Cherokee Trail of Tears beans
- True Lemon cucumber (yellow striped white round cukes)
- lettuce mix of Amish Deer Tongue, Australian Yellowleaf, Bronze Arrowhead, Forellenschuss, Lollo Rossa, Pablo, Red Velvet, Reine des Glaces
- Rosemary, thyme, Greek oregano, Sweet Genovese basil, cilantro
- Thumbelina carrots (about 1′ long, regular width)*
- annual cut flower mix*
- green bunching onions**
- wildflower mix*
- Dragon’s Tongue bean (purple striped pods)
- Amish snap peas
- Dragon carrot
- Nimba squash (Polish zucchini)
- Yugoslavian Finger Fruit (no picture on the package, but I think these are something like pattypan summer squash but orangier and pointier–finger like instead of just rounded)
- Moon and Stars watermelon (very dark green with yellow “star” spots and usually one larger “moon.” These look really, really cool.)
- Cornfield pumpkin (planted with the corn!)
- Pride of Wisconsin melon (I figured this was a shoo-in to grow in NE WI)
- Golden Bantam Improved corn
- 2″ Strawberry popcorn (to be planted in the back)
All seeds from Seed Saver’s Exchange except * which are leftovers from last year or old packs given me by Mom and ** which is organic Burpee seed from Menards (I needed oninos and had forgotten to purchase them from SSE). All the SSEs are organic and most of them are heirloom.
I haven’t written down the pepper and tomato varieties.
